What is Measurement ID?
A unique identifier formatted as 'G-XXXXXXXXXX' that tells the gtag.js routing exactly which GA4 data stream to send the collected data to.
The Measurement ID is the GA4 equivalent of the old Universal Analytics Tracking ID (UA-XXXXXXX-X). It always begins with G- followed by 10 alphanumeric characters.
Where to find it:
You can locate your Measurement ID in the GA4 Admin under Data Collection and Modification > Data Streams. Click on your web data stream, and the Measurement ID will be prominently displayed in the top right corner.
Common Issues:
When setting up Google Tag Manager (GTM), deploying the Google Tag with an incorrect or missing Measurement ID is the leading cause of a site completely failing to track any data. Always ensure your GTM container uses the exact Measurement ID corresponding to your production GA4 property.
