What is Custom Metric?

A user-defined numerical value registered in the GA4 admin that allows you to sum or average custom data points.

Similar to Custom Dimensions, Custom Metrics allow you to report on non-standard numeric values you pass into GA4.

While GA4 automatically understands what "Revenue" or "Quantity" is, what if you run a SaaS company and want to track the number of "Credits" a user consumes, or a publisher wanting to track "Article Reading Depth (percentage)"?

You would send that numeric value as an event parameter, and then register it as a Custom Metric in the admin dashboard so you can visualize the average reading depth across different traffic sources.
