What is Enhanced Measurement?
A suite of built-in GA4 event trackers that automatically measure scrolls, outbound clicks, site searches, and video engagement without needing custom GTM tags.
Enhanced Measurement is GA4's "works out of the box" feature. If you turn it on inside your Data Stream settings, the base Google Tag will automatically inject listeners into your website to track standard interactions.
What it tracks automatically:
- Scrolls: Fires when a user scrolls to 90% depth.
- Outbound clicks: Fires when a link exits your domain.
- Site search: Parses query parameters (like
?q=) to log what users search internally. - Form interactions: Attempts to automatically capture form submissions.
Warning: The automatic "Form Interactions" feature is notoriously buggy and often fires fake conversion events on Facebook Pixel or Hubspot forms. It is generally recommended to disable the Form tracking subset and build custom tag logic via GTM for true accuracy.
